Freedom of Information
Many Council documents are freely available for download from this website, while others are available for inspection at the Civic Centre.
Under the Freedom of Information Act 1991 you have the right to access (subject to certain restrictions) documents held by the Council.
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act allows you to:
- request access to documents in the possession of a State Government agency, local Council or University
- request the amendment of documents that relate to you which are incomplete, incorrect, out-of-date or misleading
- seek a review of a decision made by a State Government agency, local Council or University.
It does not apply to private businesses or organisations in South Australia. Separate legislation applies to the Commonwealth Government and the governments of the other States and Territories in Australia.

How do I make an FOI application?
You can discuss your FOI application with the Council's FOI Officer prior to lodging a request. Application forms are available at Council or you can complete the application online or download a printable version.
If you do not wish to use an application form you can make a FOI request by ensuring it:
- Is in writing.
- Specifies that you are making an application under the Freedom of Information Act 1999.
- Has your name and address.
- Specifies the documents you would like access to or what matter they concern.
- Specifies whether the documents contain information about your personal affairs.
- Request the form of access to the document (do you wish to inspect it, or have a copy?).
- Includes the appropriate application fee (please do not send cash through the mail).
- Specifies whether you are financially disadvantaged (please provide a copy of supporting document).
- Is sent directly to the Council if you believe we hold the information.
Will I have to pay?
An FOI application must be accompanied by the appropriate application fee.
Fees and Charges
Additional charges may be levied to process your request.
If you are financially disadvantaged all fees will be waived. Proof of this will be required to be sighted at the time you lodge your FOI application.
Can I correct inaccurate documents about me?
Under FOI you may apply to the Council to have documents corrected if they are incomplete, incorrect, misleading or out-of-date. Application forms are available at Council or you can download the application form below.
