In the Footsteps of Namatjira Exhibition Launch
The opening event for this exhibition was on Friday 1 July at 6 pm. The opening speaker was Nici Cumpston, Artist and Curator of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art, Art Gallery of South Australia. The exhibition was from 1 – 22 July 2016 Pepper Street Arts Centre.
This exhibition offered an insight into eight Adelaide artists’ creative journey into the lands that inspired renowned Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira. Working on their own medium and style, the artists have depicted many of the locations visited and captured by Namatjira in his artwork. The exhibition featured works in oil, watercolour, pen and wash, pastel and mixed media. Following in Namatjira’s ‘footsteps’ the artists undertook this artistic journey as a tribute to the great artist and to experience the wonders of the Australian landscape through his eyes.
