The Burnside Swim School lessons teach swimming and survival strokes, with a focus on water safety. The lessons involve water safety elements in each of the eight levels, as well as dedicated safety weeks where the entire lesson is focused on water safety activities and education. Our goal is to assist and support all children to be safer in and around the water.

To ensure a student (child or adult) is placed into the appropriate level, all swimmers 4 years and over with previous swimming experience require an assessment; swimming lessons can be booked following your assessment. During child assessments, a parent/caregiver will need to accompany any child under 5 years into the water and remain within arm's reach, in line with the Centre’s Watch Around Water program.

For more information on class structure and levels, please see our Swim School level progression(PDF, 1007KB) information.

Enrolments Process

With the nature of seasonal swimming at Burnside Swim School, we have a staggered enrolment process in place. 'Current Students' (those enrolled in the most recent term) have first priority during phase 1 to re-enrol into the new term of lessons. Bookings in a current students' class are reserved for the proceeding term, until the phase 1 enrolment deadline dates outlined. Please note, payment acts as confirmation of the same booking. If you do not confirm your current lesson before the phase 1 enrolment deadline, it will be assumed cancelled with the position in the program made available to another student. During phase 2, current students then have the opportunity to change to a different class/day/time into the spaces remaining. The program may then be opened up for new students to enrol into lessons during stage 3, with all new bookings being subject to vacancies.

To secure your Swim School booking, term fees must be paid in full at the time of enrolment. If enrolling over the phone, the Centre will accept VISA or MasterCard, if enrolling at the Centre cash, EFTPOS, VISA or MasterCard will be accepted. Cashless transactions preferred.

Current students: Please continue to monitor Swim School emails and the Centre website for further information and updates.

New students: Please continue to monitor the Centre website for further information and updates.
