Lucinda Penn (LCND) explores human occurrences and feelings in an amalgamation of art and design. Based on of Kaurna Land, Adelaide, Australia, her style is made up of a visual language of symbolic objects manipulated by contrasting colours. Lucinda's intertwining painted tapestries can be viewed in different sequences by each individual in which meaning sparks depending on their experiences and predispositions.
She works in the realms of large scale murals, to digital illustrations, to up-cycling found canvases with her surplus mural paint, and everywhere in between. Lucinda's tallest painted mural is 10m and longest printed vinyl piece is over 450m. Some of her clients include Adelaide Airport, 23RT ST Distillery, Two Hands Wines and Walker Corporation. Bringing together communities is at the heart of her practice as she engages the public in her mural painting process with her LCND Mural Painting Workshops. Lucinda won the 2023 Resene Total Colour Product Award in Auckland, NZ for her 'Quattro Juniper Gin' label with 23RD ST Distillery. This project and her mural at Studio Safari for WOTSO were finalists in the 2023 Australian Graphic Design Association Awards. She will be undertaking an art residency in Spain in August 2024 and her dream is to travel the world painting.
In 2023 she curated 'Art Work & Wear' at the Adelaide City library for SALA showcasing an artwork and set of workwear of 23 artists working in the city in 2023. She loves upcycling found materials and uses her surplus mural paint in her exhibition practice. Her latest solo show 'Handle' at Collective Haunt, Norwood, upcycled kitchen cupboard doors as canvases which retain their 'handles' and explore concepts which help us 'handle' whatever life throws our way.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must live, work or study within the City of Burnside.
  • Applicants must be aged between 13 & 18 years
  • Applicants must submit at least 3 photographs of their previous completed work
  • Applicants must commit to attending the three full day workshop dates.

Time: 9.30 am & 4.30 pm
Dates: Monday, 8 July to Wednesday, 10 July 2024
Location: Youth Space, Burnside Community Centre, 401 Greenhill Road, Tusmore

All entrants must complete all sections of the application form and submit at least 3 photographs of their previous completed work. Proposed artwork will be assessed by the Council staff.
