Managing Climate Change Impacts Locally
Council recognises the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions through our day to day operations. Ongoing measurement of our emissions through carbon reporting guides the development of actions aimed to reduce our emissions.
In 2008, the City of Burnside conducted a risk assessment of the impacts of climate change across the Council area. The key impact areas that were identified were:
- long term management of public open space;
- increased management of pest plants and animals;
- increased infrastructure management costs;
- streetscape management; and
- business continuity planning.
In 2009, a Climate Change Adaptation Plan was produced, this plan recommended a range of adaptation measures to improve hazard management and minimise the identified risks. The Council is adopting these measures in order to increase the adaptive capacity and long term resilience of the Council and help the community to better withstand climate change impacts.
