If you wish to develop your existing property it is important to that you ensure you are aware of any relevant guidelines and requirements for the desired development. For general development related queries, please contact our friendly Customer Experience Representatives on 8366 4200. 

If you wish to discuss a preliminary planning enquiry and meet with the Duty Planner at the Burnside Civic Centre, please schedule an appointment by calling 8366 4200. The Duty Planner is available for such meetings (for a maximum of 30 minutes) within the following hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9 am - 12 noon (last appointment 11:30 am)
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 1 pm - 4 pm (last appointment 3:30 pm)

 

Development Applications

As of Friday 19 March 2021, applications must be submitted in the new PlanSA online Development Assessment Portal and your application will be assessed against the new Planning and Design Code and subject to the statutory processes of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

Planning Assessment

Planning Consent involves the assessment of a proposal against the provisions of the Development Plan for the council area covered.

Compliance

The City of Burnside Compliance Officers are responsible for a wide variety of development matters.

Undertaking Work on Council Land

Authorisation must be obtained from Council to undertake works on Council land.

City Development & Safety Department

The City Development & Safety Department provides advice on planning and building related matters associated with the Development Act and Regulations 1993 and the Planning Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

Landscaping and Development - Adelaide Garden Guide

The newly launched Adelaide Garden Guide for New Homes, developed in partnership between Green Adelaide and State Planning Commission with expertise from Clover Green Space, provides small garden designs and planting ideas to help make it easy to implement the Planning and Design Code’s mandatory tree and landscaping requirements for new homes and renovations in metropolitan Adelaide.
