Seven emerging female artists have banded together to showcase their passion for colour in Colour Matters, a lively and dynamic mixed media exhibition at Pepper Street Arts Centre.

Using a variety of mediums and techniques each artist has completed a body of work that best shows off their love of colour. Ranging from 'blow-your-brain brilliant' to 'sobbingly subtle', the works are complemented with matching styles and themes.

Pat Wyllie captures the feel and effects of light and colour in the Australian landscape by using subtle watercolours and Doreen Constable paints her stable of sophisticated characters in stylish attire and surrounds. In a contemporary naïve style, Vivian Bishop paints wheels in various quirky and colourful situations and Jill Argent explores the four seasons and weather, using a hard line painting style in an abstract and minimal way.

Julie Lane and Pam Hailstone concentrate on the environment, but each in distinctive ways. Superb abstracts are created of the bark from various eucalypt trees and bold flowers are brought to life in structured compositions using dramatic colours to emphasise 2D shapes. The works of Margaret Rothenberg link in with this theme, with the artist honing in on the stunning colour designs that decorate bugs and beetles as they interact with plants.

Colour Matters opened by accomplished and award winning artist and respected tutor Margaret Tuckey.

The free exhibition runs until Friday, 21 October 2011 and is open Tuesday - Saturday from 12 noon - 5 pm.

There will also be Meet the Artist Demonstrations as part of this exhibition.
