“My interest in working with wood began many years ago when, while also full time teaching, I did a Certificate 3 in Furnishings at TAFE over three years. This prepared me well for working with wood machinery including large saws and lathes.

It wasn’t until I retired that I began turning in earnest: very basic at first, but then I had the good fortune to join Northern Turners, a club of members who turn, including some of the best in Australia like Ron Allen and Tim Skilton.

This provided me with the opportunity to hone my skills through member artists demonstrating all kinds of techniques and shared knowledge, as well as access to annual workshops with international and Australian experts.

Such expertise teaches not only new techniques and how to better old ones, but a feeling of humility. I hope that my own work has progressed as a result of these experiences and that you will enjoy viewing my work on show.

My work can also be seen each year in the Burnside Civic Centre Atrium exhibition by the Northern Turner’s wood group.”
