Beaumont House: Open Doors
Beaumont House: The Land and its Owners
Claremont Cottage built in 1849 by Augustus Short, first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide and wife Millicent Phillips. It was purchased by Sir Samuel Davenport and wife Margaret Cleland in 1857; a politician, horticulturist, pioneer of SA's olive oil, wine, silk, and perfume industries. Major William Vincent and wife Alice Buzzard then purchased the property in 1907, and a few years later in 1911 by lawyer Richard Bennett and his bohemian wife Lilian Brocksopp. Richard died in 1929 and Lilian married Kenneth Brock in 1936. Property was bequeathed to NTSA in 1970.
Tour the house, wander through beautiful gardens, olive grove and enjoy afternoon tea on verandah over-looking the garden, city and gulf.
